TRANSIENT ISCHEMIC ATTACK (TIA)
TIA "Mini-Stoke" - http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/transient-ischemic-attack/DS00220
Tonight Jerry and I were meeting our friends Randy and Stef at The Old Spaghetti Factory to celebrate their 40th anniversary. http://www.osf.com/ Jerry and I arrived before Randy and Stef and asked to be seated since we knew the place would be packed. While we were waiting for Randy and Stef to arrive the waitress took our drink orders and was asking Jerry if he wanted to order any appetizers. Jerry was trying to speak to the waitress and was having trouble getting his words out. I jumped in to tell the waitress we didn't want to order any appetizers, at this time. Jerry was trying to tell me a story about a previous experience at The Old Spaghetti Factory ... along time ago... but, again couldn't tell the story well enough for me to understand what he was saying. At this point, it was getting scary for Jerry and I. I called Stef on the cell phone to see where they were at. She told me they were close by and I told he as soon as they arrived to call me so I could meet them in the lobby and show them to the table. When Stef called me I met them and explained what was happening. Stef and Randy joined us at our table and began observing Jerry. I couldn't believe that Jerry was speaking normally, now and their was no sign of any difficulty, at all. After dinner, Stef was talking to me about he dad and how this happened to him. We shared the information with Jerry and decided we needed to go to the Emergency Room to check it out. At the ER the nurse told us, if this ever happened again to IMMEDIATELY call 911! The ER physican came in and explained what procedures they would do and also told Jerry they would be admitting him into the hospital for observation and continued testing. Before I left for the ER, for the night, the doctor said that they were able to see something on the MRI of the brain and would need to take a closer look using an ultrasound, tomorrow morning.

Trip to Virginia and Washington D.C.
Over the past several weeks, Jerry and I have been discussing taking a vacation after a long year of illness and 6 months of chemo therapy. Jerry's sister invited us to go on a cruise with her and her husband to Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan and Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Unfortunately, the ship leaves of Feb 21st thru Feb 28th. Jerry is planning to go back to work the third week of February. One of his employees will be taking a FMLA (family medical leave of absense) for 6 weeks and he fell like he'll need to be there more than the two (2) days he is currently working on disability, right now. So since we are not able to take the cruise, Jerry and I talked about making a trip to Virginia and Washington D.C. to visit my niece Katrina, Jerry (her husband), my great nephew Justice, great niece Harmony and their exchange student, Ivy, from China. Our trip is planned for leaving January 28th (the day before Jerry's 67th birthday). We are also hoping to opportunities to visit with Jerry's niece Christy (Silver Springs, MD) and Meagan and Nick Lepire (Virginia Beach, VA), as well as, a long time family friend Harry Clark (Alexandria, VA).
Really looking forward to this trip, I am looking forward to Jerry visiting my birthplace along with the magnificent Washington DC, particularly a week after such an historic inauguration.

Ranch View Circle SOLD !!! - January 15, 2009
Even in this economy, because of Jerry's deteriorating health we found it necessary to sell the 3 condominium units were owned for over 10 years on Ranch View Circle in Anaheim Hills, CA. As most of you know, Jerry and I have owned rental properties since the mid 70's. Jerry and I have owned and lived in our home for over 30 years. Then Jerry purchased the first rental property on Vermont Avenue in Anaheim. After owning that property for several years, we did a 1031 exchange and bought a house on Claudina which included a smaller mother-in-law quarters on the property. This meant two rental units. Once again after several years we did another 1031 exchange and bought a 6-unit apartment building on Park Lane in Anaheim. We owned those apartments for 18 years before we did a 1031 exchange selling the 6-unit apartments for the 3 condo's on Ranch View. Since the 70's we also purchased a condo rental in Coeur D' Alene, ID which we sold several years again, as well as a single family house on Redwood in Anaheim. So we have been tied down as landlords for over 30 years. The only properties left are our home, which we live in and our single family house on Redwood Avenue. What a relief!!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
Happy New Year, 2009! I want to start out the New Year with GOOD NEWS !!! Hopefully, on ... or maybe before ... escrow will CLOSE on our 3 Anaheim Hills Condo's !!! Yeh!!! It will be a great relief to have one less responsibility on our plate.
We had a great time bringing in the New Year, celebrating with some of our "oldest" (long time friends, not a reference to age) friends. Brad and Arlene hosted a dinner party for Ralph & Mary; Frank & R.B.; Irene & Terry (but, Terry didn't make it because of a cold); Lyn & Kim; Bill & Kathy; Paul & Jan and Jerry and I. During the day, Jerry was fighting pain and sleepiness, but wanted to go. He was dragging and wasn't feeling well but we went anyway. Once we got there, Jerry didn't think he'd be able to stay long. But once we ate dinner, he laid down for a short rest and felt pretty good the rest of the night. We were able to bring in the New Year with our close friends!
